Foster

Foster homes are an essential part of our organization. These dedicated volunteers enable us to accept more pets than our small facility would otherwise allow us to accommodate, and are essential to socializing our animals and learning their unique personalities. Commitments vary from 2 weeks to 2 months or more depending on the age of your fosters.

Contrary to popular belief, it isn’t only kittens who need to be fostered. There are several more “mature” cats who have been waiting patiently for their forever home and would love a little vacation from the shelter.

To join our foster care program complete the following steps:

1. Fill out a Foster Care Application and call the shelter to make an appointment.
2. Meet with the Foster Coordinator at the shelter to discuss your situation
and the ideal foster for you.
3. Take home your foster pet (cat, rabbit, small mammal, or bird) for temporary care or possible adoption.

All foster care expenses are tax deductible in the state of Illinois. Please note that there is a yearly fee of $25 for a foster license through the Illinois Department of Agriculture.
